Reinventing Christmas – NAC:59

In All, Global Wisdom Traditions, Jesus as the Logos, Podcast by Austin FletcherLeave a Comment

Have you ever stopped to think about why we celebrate Christmas on December 25th? Supposedly, it’s Jesus’ birthday, right? Even if that were true, have you ever wondered why we put all of our lights outside, bring trees inside, and stay up all night to catch a glimpse of a man who supposed to break into your house and leave presents?

There are an awful lot of crazy traditions around Christmas that don’t make a lot of sense when you stop to think about it. But that’s just it… I don’t think a lot of us even WANT to stop and think about it. We would rather just enjoy the traditions that we grew up with and remember what it was like when we were kids and the world was kinder and the gifts were free.

For my part, I have always been someone who values intentionality, and holiday traditions are one of the best places to start looking if you want to find a meaningful purpose behind what we do and why we do it. And after researching the history of Christmas and combining it with my existing understanding of the story of the ages, I’m more excited about Christmas than I’ve ever been.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The common thread of Christmas throughout history
  • The true meaning of the winter solstice and Yule
  • The potential for a broader celebration of Jesus and the New Year
